Max Macdonald

Walter

Raised in Sydney, Max’s love for philosophy, music, and space initially drew him to study these at The University of Sydney (USYD) in an Arts and Advanced Studies degree. However, through his engagement with the University’s Dramatic and Musical Societies, Max discovered that his true passion lay in the Performing Arts.

In 2021, he officially made the switch and completed a Diploma of Music Theatre at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), before moving to Melbourne to commence a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre) at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).

Earlier this year, Max made his professional debut with the Australian Shakespeare Company’s production of The Wind in the Willows in the Botanic Gardens (dir. Mike Bishop), covering three roles. During his final year at VCA, he was fortunate to play Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening (dir. Petra Kalive), appear as a featured soloist and arranger/composer in VCA’s 2024 Morning Melodies at Hamer Hall (dir. Jayde Kirchert), and join the 2024 Australian cast of John Bucchino’s It’s Only Life.

Additionally, he has performed as a featured ensemble member in Marry Me a Little (dir. Tyran Parke), an ensemble member in Heathers (dir. Alister Smith), and in NIDA’s 2021 production of Perfect Strangers (dir. Kate Champion).

You will probably find Max singing, but on the rare occasions he isn’t, he’s likely behind a piano creating mashups or choral arrangements.
