Choreographer

Sue-Ellen Shook is a seasoned choreographer and performer whose work spans nearly three decades across musical theatre, television, and live events. Her long-standing collaboration with the Australian Shakespeare Company has seen her choreograph a broad repertoire of productions including Tinkerbell and the Dream Fairies, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Jungle Book – A Musical Tale, Alice in Wonderland, Pirates, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, Best Bits, Twelfth Night, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. She also choreographed international seasons of Tinkerbell and the Dream Fairies and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Kew Gardens, London.

In addition to her work with ASC, Sue-Ellen was the resident choreographer for Menopause the Musical and choreographed Motherhood the Musical for HIT Productions. Her broader choreography credits include The Beautiful Game, Godspell, and the Deaflympics Opening Ceremony, featuring inclusive choreography for hearing-impaired participants. She has also choreographed for major corporate events in Germany and Singapore.

Sue-Ellen’s screen work includes choreographic contributions to So You Think You Can Dance, House Husbands, Victorian State Schools Spectacular, Worst Best Friends, and Star Search (1986, 1987, 1991). She also appeared as a featured performer in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge and workshopped movement for King Kong: The Musical under the direction of John O’Connell.

As a performer, Sue-Ellen has appeared in a diverse range of musicals including Carmen, Aida, The Time Warp Tribute Show, The Pyjama Game, 42nd Street, Boy From Oz (Production Company), Promises, Promises (State Theatre), Sugar, Oklahoma, A Chorus Line (Australian tour), Starlight Express (Germany), Possum Magic, and Menopause the Musical (as the Soap Star). She also featured in the TV opera The Divorce.

Sue-Ellen frequently collaborates with choreographer Alana Scanlan and has assisted on major productions including The Pyjama Game and 42nd Street for Jeanne Pratt’s Production Company at the State Theatre in Melbourne.
